Philadelphia Business and Individual Rights Firms Merge To Form Weir Greenblatt Pierce LLP

Philadelphia – January 18, 2022 – Two highly regarded law firms, Weir & Partners LLP (W&P) and Greenblatt Pierce Funt & Flores LLC (WGP), are delighted to announce their merger effective today, as WGP merges into W&P. The renamed firm, Weir Greenblatt Pierce LLP, will include distinguished attorneys, well-respected for their representation of businesses and individuals.

W&P has long been known for its superior representation of corporate, banking and business clients, while WGP is hailed as one of the top individual rights law firms in the region, representing clients in criminal, employment, family, personal injury, and civil rights matters.
The merger comes at a time of great financial success and stability for both firms.

“This merger is formed out of a true friendship and admiration for each other’s personnel and practices,” said Ron Greenblatt. “The decision to merge was simple. Our combined firm consists of highly regarded lawyers, practicing in a cost-efficient way. It’s a win for our clients in so many ways.”

According to Administrative Managing Partner, Brett A. Walter Weir and Patricia Pierce have been friends for over 40 years, since they worked together at the Defender Association of Philadelphia. Cross-referrals have always been common between firms. There will be no staffing changes; all current lawyers and staff of both firms will be part of the newly named firm. Ronald L. Greenblatt, the managing partner of the firm, is one of the most respected and sought-after attorneys in Pennsylvania and New Jersey. Mr. Greenblatt has successfully litigated over 1,000 criminal trials on charges ranging from homicide, homicide by vehicle, sexual assault, serious drug offenses, fraud and other white-collar crimes, internet crimes, and DUI/DWI, including cases involving the insanity defense. After years of experience, Mr. Greenblatt knows the criminal justice system from the inside out which includes the judges, prosecutors, members of the police force, and investigators associated with his cases.

Patricia V. Pierce heads the Employment Law Practice at the firm and serves as a principal in its Corporate Investigations practice. Ms. Pierce has represented individuals and groups of workers who have suffered employment discrimination and workplace harassment, litigating individual and class action employment lawsuits, as well as employee benefits cases in state and federal courts in California, Delaware, Maryland, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Tennessee, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania. Ms. Pierce frequently provides advice to executives in negotiating employment contracts and in managing sensitive trade secret and restrictive covenant/non-compete issues.

Throughout her forty-five-year career, Ms. Pierce has tried hundreds of matters to verdict, including jury and bench trials, and has been successful in handling every kind of employment litigation matter including age, gender, hostile work environment, race, national origin, and religious discrimination matters, as well as claims brought by whistleblowers under state and federal laws.

In addition, Ms. Pierce is regularly engaged by small businesses, and nonprofit corporations to provide advice and counsel in litigation avoidance and the defense of all types of employment actions. Ms. Pierce is a frequent author and lecturer for the ABA-ALI Continuing Legal Education Program, the Pennsylvania Bar Institute, and the National Employment Lawyers Association where she served on NELA’s 2011-2012 Convention Committees and continues to act as a moderator and presenter. Ms. Pierce was a Visiting Professor of Law at Santa Clara University in the mid-1990s where she founded an Employment Law Clinic and taught evidence. In Philadelphia, Ms. Pierce has served as an Adjunct Professor at Temple’s Beasley School of Law and taught law students in Temple’s Introduction to Trial Advocacy and Advanced Trial Advocacy programs, as well as practitioners in Temple’s prestigious LLM Trial Advocacy program. Ms. Pierce also taught Employment Law Practice and Procedure at Rutgers School of Law, her alma mater. She also taught trial advocacy for the National Institute of Trial Advocacy, which named her as a distinguished faculty member. Kasturi Sen, Experienced Employment Attorney, Joins Greenblatt Pierce’s Renowned Employment and Civil Rights Team

Philadelphia PA, February 2, 2021:The partners of GPPF are delighted to announce that Kasturi Sen has joined the firm’s Employment and Civil Rights Law teams. Ms. Sen, an experienced employment lawyer, is committed to fighting for social justice and focuses her practice on protecting the rights of individuals who have suffered discrimination, harassment, retaliation, wage theft or other violations, or been targeted by unfair non-compete practices in the workplace. She also represents individuals who have been victims of police misconduct or faced other types of civil rights violations.
Ms. Sen began her legal career as an associate in the Labor and Employment Law Section of Morgan Lewis & Bockius in Philadelphia—recognized widely as one of the best such legal departments in any law firm in the country. There, she gained substantial experience participating in single-plaintiff employment and non-compete litigation. As she progressed within the firm, Ms. Sen also became heavily involved in nation-wide ERISA class actions. Ms. Sen has won summary judgment for her clients on single-plaintiff discrimination and non-payment of overtime claims. She has also received injunctive relief for her clients when needed.

After five years at Morgan Lewis, Ms. Sen left to join the Defender Association of Philadelphia, where she served as an Assistant Defender, primarily in the Major Trials Unit, handling serious felony jury trials. During her seven-year tenure at the Defenders, she successfully represented clients accused of felony and misdemeanor crimes, handling hundreds of jury and bench trials and preliminary and suppression hearings. She also trained newer attorneys by co-chairing jury trials with them.

From both her tenures, Ms. Sen gained vast trial and appellate experience practicing before the Third, First and Second Circuit US Courts of Appeal, the Eastern and Middle Pennsylvania federal district courts as well as Pennsylvania state tribunals and the Philadelphia Immigration Court.

In the pro bono arena, Ms. Sen has successfully won asylum for immigration clients in removal proceedings. Ms. Sen serves on the Board of Directors of the Greater Philadelphia Chapter of the ACLU. She has also served as counsel to the Attic Youth Center in Philadelphia, a non-profit aimed at creating opportunities for LGBTQ youth and youth allies in a safe and supportive community. While still in law school, Ms. Sen served as a summer intern at the Women’s Law Project in Philadelphia as part of a pro bono project through Morgan Lewis. For her dedication to pro bono work, Morgan Lewis recognized her with the Morgan Lewis Difference Maker of the Year Award in 2011.

A graduate of Cornell University Law School (J.D. 2008), Ms. Sen served as the Articles Editor of its International Law Journal, a moot court board member, and the academic chair of its Women’s Law Coalition. Prior to attending law school, Ms. Sen worked for three years as an analyst in securities fraud for NERA Economic Consulting in New York City. She received her undergraduate degree in Economics from Franklin & Marshall College (B.A 2002). Born and raised in India, Ms. Sen is fluent in Bengali and Hindi.

Alan Yatvin, Distinguished Civil Rights Lawyer, Joins Firm — Will Chair Firm’s Highly Respected Civil Rights Practice

Yatvin, a preeminent police misconduct and civil rights litigator, has joined Greenblatt, Pierce, Funt and Flores, LLC (WGP)) as a partner. He will chair the firm’s Civil Rights department – long known for excellence in plaintiff’s civil rights matters. Attorney Alan YatvinAlan will continue to concentrate his practice on civil rights litigation, criminal defense in state, federal, and international tribunals, as well as the representation of students with special needs. With a successful career spanning 37 years, Alan has tried cases ranging from death penalty homicides to complex municipal liability police misconduct cases. He has also briefed and/or argued appellate matters before the United States Supreme Court, the Third Circuit Court of Appeals, the Pennsylvania Supreme Court, the Pennsylvania Commonwealth Court, the Pennsylvania Superior Court, and the United Nations International Criminal Tribunal for the Former Yugoslavia (ICTY) in The Hague. Alan has successfully litigated over 15 police shooting cases, recovering substantial compensation for victims and their families.
